Why Loren Aryeh Leib Ecker chose to be in the helping profession

For much of my life I planned on being an actor. I went to college at Carnegie Mellon University and transferred to New York University to study Theater Arts. I worked in NYC in the entertainment business for many years until I was exposed to Torah Judaism upon which time I left the dreams of acting behind and attended a Yeshiva to study the Torah and it's ways. It was in yeshiva that I realized that I no longer wished to pursue the Theater, but what would I do instead? I began a journey to figure out what my tafkid, my true purpose in life was. That's when I realized that the personal work I had done on myself over the years to overcome my own challenges and struggles positioned me well to understand the challenges and struggles of others. I enrolled in a graduate social work program to learn the art of therapy so that I could be useful to other people.

Loren Aryeh Leib Ecker's approach

Helping people cope with and overcome the pain associated with complex trauma informs much of how I approach therapy. People who have experienced complex trauma often struggle with relationships and with feeling good about themselves. In my practice I take a warm and accepting stance towards my clients. Recognizing that much of people's trauma developed as the result of difficult relationships, and knowing that the therapeutic relationship is probably the most significant indicator of positive outcomes in therapy, I try to create a safe environment where clients can feel safe and at ease to share with me their struggles and unburden themselves free from judgement and shame. To this end I work with adults and couples. My clients struggle with a variety of issues including marital and relationship distress, low self esteem, addictions, anxiety, depression, uncertainty and lack of clarity about life goals and direction, and an inability to execute and realize hopes and dreams for their lives.

What you can expect from sessions with Loren Aryeh Leib Ecker

When you come to see me as an individual client you can expect to be treated with warmth, respect, and acceptance. I will listen closely to what you have to say and work together with you to develop goals for therapy. I will make suggestions and at times, even challenge your thoughts and ideas to help you gain greater clarity and self mastery. I will enable you to learn more about yourself and I will help you to unburden yourself of those thoughts and feelings that cause you pain and hold you back from achieving your goals.

It is well known that the therapeutic relationship is the greatest indicator of positive therapeutic outcomes, that is why I work so hard to make sure that my clients feel safe, seen, soothed, and accepted when they come to see me.

When I work with couples I help to slow things down and to point out where they get stuck. I use a technique called Emotionally Focused Therapy through which my couples learn to talk and communicate with one another in a new way. This approach enables my couples to turn the emotional temperature way down, clearing a space for real listening, understanding, and healing to take place.
