heythereParticipant1 year agoHi all,
I was wondering what kind of therapy you usually do for low sex drive. I’m in therapy but not sure if I’m at the right place. I’d appreciate any professional insight. Thank you so much
1 year agoHey there heythere!
Typically sexual issues are treated by sex therapists. As a sex therapist, I can tell you that I would first rule out anything medical so visiting your GYN and PCP would be the first way to go.
If there’s nothing physically going on, a sex therapist can help you understand why you might be experiencing this lower libido, taking into account your history, religion, culture, and relationship dynamics, and giving you homework each week to practice at home to help you achieve your goals.
1 year agoHey, thanks so much for your response. Just 2 more questions please – What medical issues can cause low libido? And what kind of homework would that be?
Thanks so much
1 year agoMy pleasure!
I’m not a doctor but some issues would include certain heart issues, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, vitamin deficiencies. And sometimes it’s not the issues themselves that are the culprits, it’s medications that we might take for different issues such as antidepressants. Certain antidepressants have the side effect of lowering libido.
As for homework, it’s customized to your specific issue and personality and history so it’s hard to say. The homework will be about getting you from where you are now to where you want to be so it would include exercises that are relevant to your goals. Sometimes certain mindfulness exercises are included in this.

1 year agoHey heythere, just to add to what @Michali wrote; if you recently started or had a medication change that can be a factor.
Additionally, recent stress caused by COVID-19 and unrest from protests can be adding stress that may decrease sex drive.
