Are repressed traumatic memories coming up in forms of dreams and nightmares reliable?

I had a traumatic childhood but I lost most of my memories. The blanks has been lately coming up through therapy at night in dreams. I wonder how reliable recovering memories.

I would appreciate professional input on this

    Hi wantoheal,

I am not psychoanalytically trained (as psychoanalysts do use dream interpretation as part of the therapy process), but I do believe dreams are part of our subconscious and our subconscious hold everything in it including our experiences and suppressed memories.  Though dreams aren’t factual, they are a great springboard for processing in the therapy room.
